Movie review: Jolly LLB 2

Jolly LLB 2 movie cast: Akshay Kumar, Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla, Annu Kapoor
Jolly LLB 2 movie director: Subhash Kapoor
Jolly LLB 2 movie rating: 4*

Story: Jadishwar Mishra (Akshay) has a wife Pushpa (Huma) and they live a happy life together. Jolly, as he is lovingly called, tries to rise up the lawyer world with his ingenuity and persistence rather than technical superiority. Things change when Jolly gets involved in helping a widow Hina Siddiqui (Sayani Gupta) and everything could be involved with a terrorist ploy. The film makes a social point through the antics of its lead character.

Jolly LLB was a jolly good movie. A little film by Subhash Kapoor, Jolly LLB was shouldered by actors like Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla. This sequel of Jolly LLB, infinitely superior to the first, brings back the joys of watching a movie with a solid plot, a strong sense of time and place and rhythm, and a confidence in itself that has been missing from Bollywood. Yes, there a few dips, and some slips, but on the whole, this Akshay Kumar-starrer is a win.

Director/writer Subhash Kapoor knows the legal system like an absolute pro. His setup for the actors is authentic but his ideas aren’t all that strong. The second half of the film especially tries to pack in too much drama, melodrama and twists. But the actors bring in the requisite restraint and make Jolly LLB 2 an absolute delight.

  • Akshay Kumar gives a finely nuanced performance
  • Annu Kapoor is a powerhouse on screen
  • The film maintains a decent pace throughout and is entertaining
  • Saurabh Shukla is the film’s biggest highlight

Minus Points:

  • Inconsistent reading of the case and its need to make a point can backfire
  • There are a few loopholes and logical mishandling in the screenplay
